Mentoren in Schleswig-Holstein e.V.

Mentoren in Schleswig-Holstein e.V.
Germany, Ahornallee 34, D-24161 Altenholz,
Associated Organization
www.mentoren-sh.de

About us
The “Mentoren e.V.” is an association in Schleswig-Holstein. About 25 persons living near Kiel are members. The Mentors are former business-men, managers or representatives of banks aged between 60 an 75 – so we are all retired. It is our principle to work on an honorary basis (in order to cover our expenses we charge 15€ p.h., which is in the consultancy-business more a symbolic figure indeed).
The aim of the association is to bridge the gap between the generations in our economy. We want to transfer our professional expertise to younger managers of companies. So we help them for instance to develop business-plans, we also support start-up-entrepreneurs positioning their new enterprise or we accompany the responsible manager when negotiating with the house-bank, etc.
Our clients are primarily small and medium sized enterprises (SME). We also offer our consultancy to people looking for a new job or to students, who want to create a new technology-based company. In such cases we give valuable hints and we utilize our network for them.

Why we participate in Best Agers
In addition to the demographic change there are increasingly two other challenges for the economy in our region:
- first, that is the well known world-wide globalization with its fast and high-technical development, and
- second, there is an economic concentration in the large cities, which is a problem in particular to the SME in the province.

The SME must be fit to cope with the future competition. They must adjust to the rapidly changing conditions. The Mentors support them by consulting, by discussing and analysing the problems. So we try to strengthen those SME to cope more successfully with this tremendous challenge.

What´s happening right now
Right now the Mentors (25 retired managers) are dealing with about 70 projects. Most projects come from SME, jobless people, and students who want to set up a new company.
